How Well Do Traffic Engineering Objective Functions Meet TE Requirements?
نویسندگان
چکیده
We compare and evaluate howwell-known and novel networkwide objective functions for Traffic Engineering (TE) algorithms fulfil TE requirements. To compare the objective functions we model the TE problem as a linear program and solve it to optimality, thus finding for each objective function the best possible target of any heuristic TE algorithm. We show that all the objective functions are not equivalent and some are far better than others. Considering the preferences a network operator may have, we show which objective functions are adequate or not.

Different Network Performance Measures in a Multi-Objective Traffic Assignment Problem
Traffic assignment algorithms are used to determine possible use of paths between origin-destination pairs and predict traffic flow in network links. One of the main deficiencies of ordinary traffic assignment methods is that in most of them one measure (mostly travel time) is usually included in objective function and other effective performance measures in traffic assignment are not considere...
متن کاملFlow Allocation Algorithms for Traffic Engineering
The objective of traffic engineering (TE) is to optimize network resources, while satisfying traffic oriented performance requirements. As a technology for TE, we focus on a way to avoid congestion on some links and balance the traffic load over the network. Given a traffic matrix representing users’ traffic demands, we allocate their traffic flows. In this paper, we propose some flow allocatio...
متن کاملAn Automated Traffic Engineering Algorithm for MPLS-Diffserv Domain
Traffic Engineering seeks to optimize the handling of the traffic in a network such that the capacity in various parts is utilized efficiently. IETF has developed new protocols and techniques to meet the emerging traffic requirements and to manage and control the network and its services. With MPLS, Diffserv, RSVP-TE/CR-LDP, SLA and COPS in place, manual provisioning of the network is impossibl...
متن کاملManaging Traffic Growth in Next-Generation Telecom Networks
This dissertation investigates how to optimally manage the traffic and its growth as well as the resources in a telecom network using optical wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) technology. A part of this dissertation addresses the Traffic Engineering (TE) problem, which determines how to set up explicit routes between sourcedestination pairs for various traffic demands so that the utilizati...
